Senior Cable Jointer

The post holder is responsible for all unmetered power service disconnections and reconnections on contracts, working within the company’s highway installation department.

Main Duties Include

Working on HV & LV Networks, carrying out jointing services and cabling work on company contracts.
Complete risk assessments and produce safe methods of working for situations not covered by generic risk assessments.
Carry out inspection, testing and certification of completed jointings.
Complete Site Quality checks to ensure that all works meet the specified standards and that all crews are operating safely.
Ensure that crews are following customer contact procedures correctly and deal with any customer complaints and queries.
Carry out all inspection, testing and certification of goods and equipment.
Carry out visual quality check of materials supplied direct to site, and report any non-conforming product to the Contract Manager.
Carry out weekly measure of all completed works and ensure that site instructions are received where required.
Obtain signed measure sheets for all completed works, and completion certificates as required.
Prepare all necessary contract handover documentation and pass to Contract Manager for submission.
Ad hoc civils work as required.

Knowledge and Skills


Minimum of 5 years’ experience in LV and HV Cable Jointing – 2 of which must be as NERS Qualified Supervisor and/or Jointing Supervision
Knowledge of CDM and COSHH requirements
Experienced with DNO Codes of Practice (e.g. UKPN, SSE, etc)
NRSWA Street Works Supervisors accreditation desirable but not essential.
DNO Authorisations (UKPN/SSE) desirable but not essential.
Jointing Competencies to relevant DNO – both live and dead jointings
Ability to read and understand cable plans and designs
Experience in working with design schematics, duct diagrams and work instructions
Knowledge of latest cable jointing / termination techniques and safety standards
First Aider.
